Mana team updates. Della’s latest big trip

My Holiday by Della Allum. (Tee hee)

My partner & I recently had a fantastic 6 week trip away to the UK, Spain and Italy, visiting friends and family.  We stopped off in Tokyo on our way there and in Hong Kong on our way back. The entire trip was amazing but Italy stands out the most to me. The whole reason for the holiday was prompted by my best friend in the UK getting married in Sorrento, just south of Naples. We decided to fly into Rome to explore the massively historical city for a couple of days first. It was fantastic! Seeing the Colosseum lit up at night was spectacular, and witnessing the beauty of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican was a once in a lifetime experience. After our brief but busy tour of Rome, we headed down to Sorrento for my friend’s wedding. What a place! I knew it would be beautiful, but this was absolutely out of this world. The culture, the food, the people and the scenery were unbeatable. Luckily, Sorrento is just a short train ride to Pompeii so we also had the opportunity to spend a day there.  Taking in the perfectly preserved cobbled streets and buildings, and even people who died during the volcanic eruption some thousands of years ago really brought home just how astonishing and important this city is and was.

My friend’s wedding was also a truly wonderful experience. The ceremony was set in an old monastery and it was like something out of a fairy-tale.

I feel so lucky to have encountered so much culture, history and beauty in the short time we were there. Italy is certainly on my list of places to go back to and explore further… maybe Venice & Florence next time

Auckland auctions slow, rest of NZ begins to rise

Mana Property this past weekend attended the NZPIF conference in Auckland to hear the latest on the property investing market around the country. The general theme of the conference was that the market gains in Auckland have slowed following the new LVR restriction rules but that the other main NZ markets were starting to climb as money moved out towards the provinces instead.

Articles like these seem to also indicate that Auckland is taking a breather until the new rules are better understood.

What does this mean for us? The market data shown showed that the provincial centers are receiving a ripple effect away from Auckland and that some upward pressure on activity, and prices in some locations, is starting to occur. So now seems to be a good time to review your position and decide if you feel like adding to a portfolio before any possible increases come along, was a view expressed regularly at the event, from both the speakers and delegates.

If you werent able to make it to the conference where international investor and former Dunedin boy Dolf de Roos was the key note speaker, feel free to contact us and see if the information we gathered at the conference is useful for you and your Dunedin rental property.
